The things women actually ask me.
Usually with an apology first. You don't need to apologise.
I'm nervous about one-to-one training.+
Almost everyone is. It's quite an intense-sounding thing, an hour of someone's full attention.
In practice it's much less exposing than a gym floor. There's nobody else in the room to be embarrassed in front of, and I'm not standing there judging you, I'm working out how to help.
The consultation call exists partly for this reason. Come and see if I'm annoying. ✨
I've never lifted anything before.+
Good. Genuinely, you've got no bad habits to unpick.
We start with unloaded movements and light weights until they feel boring, then we add weight. You'll know what everything is called and why we're doing it.
You will not be thrown under a heavy barbell on day one.
I don't want to be shouted at.+
You won't be. I don't do drill sergeant.
No "beast mode", no counting your reps like a punishment, no making you feel like you owe me effort.
There will be encouragement, some very bad jokes, and me telling you to put the bar down when you've had enough.
Will I get bulky?+
No, and I'd gently ask what's underneath the question.
Building visible muscle takes years of deliberate effort. What happens much sooner is that you get strong, move better, and stop feeling fragile.
If you do end up with shoulders you can see, my honest hope is that you'll like them.
What do I wear?+
Whatever you can move in and don't mind sweating in.
Trainers with a flat-ish sole are helpful. Leggings or shorts, a top you're comfortable in. That's it.
Nobody is looking at your kit. There's nobody here to look.
How often would I need to come?+
Once or twice a week is where most of my clients land, and it's plenty.
I'd rather you came once a week for three years than four times a week for a fortnight before it falls apart.
Do you do weight loss or nutrition plans?+
No. It's not what I do, and it's not what I'm interested in.
No calorie targets, no weigh-ins, no cutting carbs. If food is something you want proper support with, I'll happily point you to a registered dietitian.
What if I've got an injury or something's going on with my health?+
Tell me at the consultation call and we work around it.
Backs, knees, shoulders, pelvic floors, perimenopause, pregnancy, long-term conditions, none of it disqualifies you. It just changes where we start.
Still got a question?
Ask me directly, I'd rather answer it than have you wondering.
